Managing Foreign Capital Flows in Eastern Europe II.
The final conference in the project "Managing Foreign Capital Flows in Eastern Europe" was organised by ICEG European Center in Budapest at Hotel Hyatt International on October 20-21, 2001.
At this meeting the findings of the research project were discussed in three panels with the help of a distinguished moderators. The participants of the meeting included besides the contributors policy makers from the region, representatives of international financial institutions and leading researchers dealing with capital flows, financial fragility, currency crises on global level.The first section of the program included presentation on capital flows and their management in Central Europe. The second section discussed the same issues for South-Eastern Europe, while the last one included papers written on Russia and the Baltics. Another section of the conference included summary presentation evaluating the micro- and macroeconomic aspects of capital flows, financial integration of transition economies.
The last part discussed issues related to the capital flows and their management in a broader by involving senior economists and focusing on the relationship between capital flows, exchange rate regime, regulation of capital movements and the evolution of the international financial architecture.The program of the conference consisted of both country presentations and three general overview papers discussing the mentioned issues in regional framework.
The list of participants includes leading experts from local and regional research institutes and think tanks, from investment banks, international financial organisations and central banks. Proceedings give a brief overview of the event.
