Roundtable on the effects of high oil prices on the economy

Location: Deák Palota (1052 Budapest, Deák Ferenc u. 15.)

Date: 15 November 2007, 14:00-17:00

ICEG European Center prepared a study for the European Parliament in summer 2007 to assess the impact of sustained high oil prices on the European economy and to identify potential policy responses. Based on this study ICEG European Center initiated a dialogue between Hungarian stakeholders (corporations, policymakers, academic experts and NGOs) on the effect of high energy prices on the Hungarian economy. The experts at the roundtable discussion were Balázs Felsmann (secretary of state, Ministry of Economy and Transport), Gábor Pellényi (research fellow, ICEG EC), András Tóth (policy officer, DG TREN), László Varró (chief economist, MOL).

The study for the European Parliament was prepared with the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) and GKI Energy Research and Consulting. The study can be accessed here. A background study was also prepared for this event in Hungarian.
