Aim of the Project:
The energy policy papers written within this project were eventually published by the client int he series ’GKI energy policy papers’ in order to improve the knowledge of economic policymakers on the energy industry. All studies were written in Hungarian. The first study assessed the technological and economic characteristics of the electricity industry, summarized the main theoretic reasons and practical methods of state intervention, compared different models of electricity systems and reviewed the international experience of electricity market liberalisation. The second paper described the main models of wholesale electricity trade with special focus on the role of energy exchanges in Western European countries. The first and second papers were written between November 2004 and February 2005. The third study analysed the determinants of the security of energy supply with a particular focus on Hungarian energy networks. The fourth paper assessed the opportunities of renewable energy in Hungary. The third and fourth papers were written between May-October 2006.
